All of the French Butter Dishes/Crocks are handmade to order and all are slightly different, even though they start out with the same amount of clay. 100% lead free, microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. Using your French Butter Dish; To keep the butter from slipping out of the lid when its warm, place a stick or two of butter in the lid and let it get soft. Next, pack the butter into the lid, pressing all the air out and making sure it makes complete contact with the inside of the form. Then put fresh, cold water in the base. Change the water every couple of days to avoid mold. Wash the lid in between packing's Butter varies from dairy to dairy and salted butter seems to keep better than unsalted. If you unsalted butter, try adding some salt to the water in the base. Add only enough water to clear the lip of the lid when its placed on the base. This dish will not work with margarine. Barbara Shaughnessy's pottery is handmade in the USA with stoneware clay translation: good, durable, functional, water tight pots that are oven and microwave-safe, as well as lead free. Barbara fires her pots in an electric kiln and reach a temperature of 2260 degrees. All her pots are hand thrown on a potters wheel. Electric is more dependable for repeatable glaze effects. "I am just a small pottery studio; I make pottery because I love the whole process." Please remember that not all pots are created equal! By that statement I mean that my mugs are not all the same size and the glazes on the outside may be somewhat similar but never exactly the same. This holds true for all of my pottery.
